Preparing for Fall: 7 Companies to Reach Out to in Indianapolis

Ideas, Outdoor Living, Tips

When the months start to get a little bit colder and there is a huge fluctuation in temperatures, you know you are spending autumn in Indianapolis. The days are shorter and your time is cut short because you have so much to do. From football games with your family to spending more time at work to save up for the holidays, it seems like you never have any time to take care of your yard work or make memories.

Not anymore – you just have to get creative about how you handle your time. One way to do this is to seek out companies to help you – thankfully, Indianapolis has a lot of them.

1. Stuckey Farm

Every weekend at Stuckey Farm is something special this time of the year. Each weekend has a different focus on the tastes of the season: pumpkin, apple, and apple cider. There is entertainment, pumpkin picking, a corn maze, crafts, and other activities that will keep everyone happy, from toddlers to grandfathers.

For those who love animals, there are pig races, pony rides, and a petting zoo. For adventure seekers, the apple cannons are a lot of fun.

Stuckey Farm also holds a pumpkin pie contest, which is one of the tastier days of the year.

2. The Pool Shop

Closing your pool at the end of the season can be a bit of an ordeal – you have to take out fixtures, winterize your

pump, add chemicals, and cover up your pool. The Pool Shop is a local favorite among pool owners because they tend to have just about whatever you need. Their retail outlet sells everything you need to winterize your pool and close it up for the year. They will tell you if you are missing anything and even give you suggestions.

Even better, the team at  The Pool Shop can close your pool for you. This takes away almost all of the stress and free up your weekend. They will handle almost everything, or you can do some of it yourself to cut costs. This is a great option for people who have never closed a pool before and who want to learn.

3. Greenscapes

During the summer months, our yards take quite a beating. From the rain that pounds down on our gardens, flooding them, to the kids that have to take running leaps off of the steps, cracks and crumbling happen. If your hardscaping is a little worse for the wear, you need to fix it before the cold and ice hits.

Greenscapes is a fantastic company that will work with you to repair and create beautiful outdoor spaces. Even more importantly, their repairs will last longer than the original pieces did thanks to their skilled hands and professional techniques.

Don’t get caught with slippery steps and no railing or a retaining wall that crumbles in the middle of winter – get everything taken care of today.

4. Indianapolis Zoo

While we tend to highlight small businesses here, it would be a shame not to mention our own Indianapolis Zoo,

which holds one of the best fall celebrations in the country.

You won’t be able to find an elephant smashing, stepping on, and pushing around pumpkins anywhere else – and it is a sight to behold for adults and for children. You’ll also be able to watch a brown bear bob for apples and enjoy a special Halloween show at the dolphin exhibit.

For those with little ones, you are encouraged to bring them in costumes.

5. Court’s Yard & Greenhouse

Court’s Yard & Greenhouse is a fantastic choice if you want to change out the summer plants in your yard for beautiful fall and autumn ones. These plants are hardy and have muted colors in yellows, oranges, and reds. While some greenhouses may not have a lot of selection, you’ll find plenty of options here.

The best part about Court’s Yard and Greenhouse is that they are willing to walk and talk  you through just about everything you could possibly want – whether you need something that is safe for your dogs or something that will live if you don’t remember to water them.

Before going, make sure to check out their Facebook page (linked above) because they have a lot of specifics about their hours, plants, and more.

6. Tuttle Orchards

Plus, they have some amazing apples that you will dream about the rest of the year. In fact, they are so good that they have won ribbons at the Indiana State Fair for 50-years in a row. They have quite a few different options including Ida Red, Early Blaze, and Cortland apples.

Tuttle Orchards is also home to a massive corn maze  and some of the best treats you’ll ever eat – like homemade caramel apples.

Menchhofer Tree Care will perform a tree risk assessment on all of the trees in your yard to see what needs to be taken care of before the ice and snow comes. This can include checking the health of trees, looking how far the branches are from structures, and looking for diseases.
